State Authorization and Licensing for Online Learning

Florida Tech is on the list of private and out-of-state public postsecondary educational institutions maintained by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education. The list includes private and out-of-state public postsecondary educational institutions operating in Minnesota whose name and degrees are approved by the Office of Higher Education:

“Florida Tech is registered as a private institution with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education pursuant to sections 136A.61 to 136A.71. Registration is not an endorsement of the institution. Credits earned at the institution may not transfer to all other institutions.”

All Minnesota residents emolling in online programs must be notified of the requirements of the Minnesota Degree Standards on the state website at www.ohe.state.mn.us, and Minnesota residents must satisfy these requirements either through the use of electives or by completing additional courses as necessary.

Curriculum

Standards for currciulum in Minnesota can be found online at www.ohe.state.mn.us, but in general require the following earned credit hours for semester-based institutions:

  English/
Communication
Mathematics/
Natural Science
Humanities Social Science
Associate of Arts programs 5 8 8 8
Associate of Science programs 4 4 4 4
Bachelor of Arts programs 5 8 8 8
Bachelor of Science programs 4 4 4 4

A statement in the enrollment or registration materials must be provided to Minnesota residents about these requirements to inform them about using electives accordingly and/or that some additional courses may be required to satisfy the requirements. It should be noted that Minnesota considers history courses as social science and not as humanities courses.
